Definition For Marketing

There is more than one definition for marketing...and here are a few of the best (plus my personal favorite)!

My personal definition is actually very simple. Here it is:


Marketing is telling people what you offer,
over and over and over again.


If you want a more lofty answer to the question "what is marketing?" there are many to choose from:

The official definition of marketing according to Dictionary.com (Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.):

Marketing:
noun
  • the act of buying or selling in a market
  • the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling


Another marketing definition comes from www.merriam-webster.com:

marketing:
noun
  • the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market b: the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service
  • an aggregate of functions involved in moving goods from producer to consumer

And here is yet another definition found on www.askoxford.com (I do happen to like this one, because it uses simple, down-to-earth words and makes good common sense!):

  • The promotion and selling of products or services
