Permission Based Marketing

Permission based marketing saves you time, money, and energy...and makes you feel better about your marketing because you are only reaching out to the people who are actually interested in what you have to say.

Permission based marketing is a fairly recent concept based on marketing via email.

And it is the exact opposite of spam.

According to Wikipedia, "spamming is the abuse of electronic messaging systems to indiscriminately send unsolicited bulk messages."

In other words, when you get spam email, you didn't ask for it, you didn't want it, and you didn't give permission for it to be sent to you.

In most cases, it isn't even something you have any need or interest in. It just clogs up your inbox.

Permission marketing, on the other hand, is completely relevant (and the key word is relevant) email that clients and customers actually look forward to receiving.

Let's say you own a flower shop, and every Mother's Day you receive a flood of orders for flowers and bouquets (often the day before Mother's Day itself, right?).

What if you talked to each person who ordered flowers for Mother's Day and said "if you'd like us to put you on our reminder system, we'd be glad to email you a week before every major holiday with some tips on making the most of each occasion as well as some ideas for great holiday gifts. Many of our clients have found it really helps them plan ahead for special occasions. Would you like to receive it?"

When the client says 'yes', you now have permission to email them before holidays, which happen to be your busiest times as well.

You could include coupons or holiday specials along with the tips and ideas and then track which mailings are the most compelling.


And the best part of all – your client will appreciate receiving your email!
